BOND STREET, LONDON W1

Bond Street, in the heart of the West End of London, has for centuries been a focus of London’s elite, and is now revered throughout the world for its wealth of elegant stores and galleries, offering designer fashion, luxury goods, fine jewels, art and antiques. It attracts thousands of visitors every day, and this is set to increase dramatically following the opening of the Bond Street Crossrail station in 2018.

Bond Street has experienced relative neglect over recent decades, and has tired and dated street infrastructure, traffic congestion throughout the day, and a poor pedestrian experience. Joint public and private enterprise is funding a significant enhancement to Bond Street, which will deliver exemplary public realm, wider footways, better traffic management and less nuisance and intrusion from parked and loading vehicles. This will create an environment where visitors can relax and spend time in safety, ensuring that Bond Street maintains its reputation as the world’s most sophisticated retail destination.

NRP, working for City of Westminster (through FM Conway as service provider, and Jacobs) and their partners the New West End Company and Transport for London, is assisting with the ongoing development of the Bond Street Scheme, providing services including traffic data collection, traffic engineering and road safety design, traffic management strategy, traffic modelling (LinSig and VISSIM) to the exacting standards of the Transport for London Model Auditing Process, kerbside waiting and loading design advice, and support with detailed design, public consultation and business case development.
